What does a government relations adviser do?
A government relations adviser helps an organisation understand its public-sector relationships and organise engagement around agreed objectives. Our work can include institutional mapping, positioning, meeting preparation and continuing dialogue, with deliverables that help your team communicate consistently and make informed decisions.
How does government relations differ from lobbying?
Government relations manages an organisation’s engagement with public institutions over a defined issue or continuing programme. Lobbying focuses on advancing a particular position or desired change. Where both are needed, we agree distinct activities and materials within a coordinated mandate.
Can you work with our existing relationships and advisers?
Yes. Existing relationships, sector knowledge and previous engagement provide useful starting points. We assess what is already working, identify gaps and agree how Gracen Law will support your executives and other advisers. The programme can build on established channels without duplicating their roles.
Can the engagement include county governments?
Yes. A mandate can address national institutions, county governments or both, depending on the issue. We consider the relevant responsibilities and sequencing so your team understands which institution should receive each request, briefing or proposed discussion.
Can you coordinate engagement across African markets?
We can structure a mandate covering Kenya and relevant African markets, identifying the institutions and local capabilities required for each workstream. The engagement plan sets out responsibilities and coordination arrangements so market-specific advice and communication support a coherent regional objective.
What should we bring to an initial consultation?
Share the objective, institutions involved, existing correspondence and any upcoming decision or meeting. A brief account of previous engagement helps us assess the starting position. We then agree the scope, materials and next steps for the proposed programme.
